There are some things that you just know and there are some things that you have to figure out. There are lessons we have to learn the hard way and lessons that we can take at another’s word.
“I’ve been making a list of the things they don’t teach you at school. They don’t teach you how to love somebody. They don’t teach you how to be famous. They don’t teach you how to be rich or how to be poor. They don’t teach you how to walk away from someone you don’t love any longer. They don’t teach you how to know what’s going on in someone else’s mind. They don’t teach you what to say to someone who’s dying. They don’t teach anything worth knowing.
And then I felt sad because I realized that once people are broken in certain ways, they can never be fixed. And that’s something that nobody ever tells you when you are young. And as you grow older you see the people in your life break one by one, and I started to wonder when it was going to be my turn.
.. Or if it has already happened.”
Somethings get so mixed up that you can’t fix them. We’re creatures of language, as all creatures are. Sometimes it’s verbal, sometimes it’s not, but we’re not above communication. Sometimes there’s nothing effective enough that can fix it and we have to accept that. We have to move on. We have to find what it is that we’re missing. Everyone is missing something.
